NZTech Inform – unlocking our digital future

Last Monday, the Aotearoa AI Summit kicked off the week with a gathering of the New Zealand AI community sharing some great examples of AI in action. 

At our Tuesday meeting with the Secretary of Education, much of the focus was on aligning investment (from multiple agencies) toward encouraging more students to learn subjects that will prepare them for tech or digital jobs. Work is underway by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on preparing an RFP for helping design and deploy a locally focused tech story campaign leveraging the work already underway with New Zealand’s international tech story, See Tomorrow First. Ideally, the domestic story will provide a shared narrative that all agencies and NGO’s can use to support their own attraction work.

On Wednesday, Minister Clark launched the Government’s Digital Strategy for Aotearoa (DSA) at the Digital Boost Alliance one year celebration in Auckland. The Minister also gave an opening address at the Tech Users Day on Thursday, where further discussion was centred on the DSA’s three themes – mahi tika trust, mahi tahi inclusion and mahi ake growth. Congratulations to our friends Anna and Kelly Pendergrast on the timely publication of More Zeros and Ones: Digital Technology, Maintenance and Equity in Aotearoa New Zealand.  Their new book further explores how our digital world can be made more inclusive and sustainable.
