New Zealand education platform wins prestigious edtech award

Dunedin-based company ADInstruments has received another global edtech award for Lt, its cloud-based learning software for the sciences. The Reimagine Education Awards – also known as “the Oscars of education” – are administered by QS Quacquarell Symonds and represent the largest global program to recognise innovative teaching approaches. There were more than 1100 applications across 18 categories in these awards in 2022, and competing educational solutions underwent six stages of judging. By winning the E-Learning category, Lt proves itself as a truly innovative teaching solution that has been approved by educational experts.

Traditionally, science educators in higher education are required to teach practical lab sessions to foster lab skills in their students (for example, how to use hardware, work in teams, and handle chemicals and tissue preparations). These lab sessions may suffer from low student engagement, with students using paper lab manuals and being more focused on troubleshooting their equipment than learning key concepts. Many educators want their students to engage in active learning and improve their conceptual understanding. In addition, these labs had to be delivered remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this has emphasized the importance of labs that can be delivered flexibly.

Lt is designed to meet these needs, making science easier for both educators and students. The team behind the platform is thrilled to see this purpose recognised. “We aim to add value for educators and their students with each new feature we add to Lt,” says Katie Bracewell, Education Development Manager at ADInstruments. “How the next generation of scientists is taught is crucial, so it’s important to us that Lt provides a seamless user experience and engages students in their learning.”

The Lt platform continues to expand, with recent additions including 46 lessons and 1400+ questions on introductory chemistry, and 60 lessons on veterinary physiology. Educators are invited to preview Lt lessons or sign up for a 90-day free trial online.
