LandWISE 2019: Rethinking Best Practice

Rethinking Best Practice brings together lead researchers, tech providers and farmers to discuss how we can replace old practices with new thinking and technology.

Farming has complex systems and change can be difficult to manage. Critical topics covered include reducing nitrate losses that impact water quality in our streams by incorporating new technologies and practices, new technologies to remove pollutants from surface water, new technologies for weed control and generally, growing more food with less impact and better profit.

Do we really know why we farm as we do? Or are we constrained in ways we just don’t see?

Often our current practices have evolved over a very long time – thousands of years of human history, decades of technology developments. Remember the space shuttle and the horse’s rear? We’ve long forgotten some of the reasons behind what we do, so maybe it is time for a reset!

Come and listen to rethinkers from New Zealand, Australia and the USA. Chat with farmers, advisors, technologists and researchers. Have a rethink!

LandWISE was awarded four significant new projects that started in 2018. They cover enhanced GPSprecision drainage for orchardsnitrates in fresh vegetable production and herbicide resistance management. They’ll be among the topics discussed at LandWISE 2019.
