Earlier this month, I was delighted to attend Bridgewest’s Impact Innovation Conference. While I was there, I wondered why it seems so difficult to grow the biotech sector? Considering we have all the ingredients in New Zealand for a strong biotech sector, it shouldn’t be so hard!

At our recent Ada Lovelace Day event, five women shared their technology career stories. While all unique in both journey, challenges and successes, early exposure to the evolving nature of tech was a recurring theme. These exposures were wide ranging and included recalling a first computer in the house, playing with toys typecast as being "for boys", learning with/from brothers, experiencing new technologies in school programs, and being taken to inspiring tech events as youths.

As spring growth continues, it’s great to also see signs of growth for our industry too. New product launches, industry recognition and the ability to get out into the world are all very welcome growth dynamics.

Last week EdTechNZ member Amy App’s CEO Raphael Nolden joined the Hon. Chris Hipkins on a delegation to Asia to promote our education sector.

As signalled in last month’s newsletter, DINZ’s submission to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner’s consultation paper on Biometrics did proceed to plan, and we were grateful to receive OPC’s thanks and acknowledgement of the work put in by our special interest group of DINZ members.

It’s a common conversation of wondering how much data is being captured through our smartphones, if we’re being tracked, and for what purpose.
